80’s vs 90’s

Both the 80s and the 90s were huge for music, so today I thought I would compare both eras.

For me the 90’s has to be the best era for music. In the 90s Yo! MTV Raps took over peoples TV’s and hip-hop music as a whole became more and more popular, and if you haven’t noticed from my blog already I am a big fan of rap/hip-hop music. Aswell as hip-hop music you seen the rise of famous pop stars like Britney Spears and bands like Oasis.

Being a 90s baby myself I was brought up on 80s music, which I can’t lie was also a great era for music but I still prefer the 90s.

I decided for my 90s themed nails that I would mix together some of my favourite things, like run dmc for example:

I interviewed Mark Brun a Multimedia Journalist who runs an 80s themed music blog and would disagree with my opinion, “The music was so diverse with loads of different styles back then like new romantic, rock ska, reggae and it was the start of house music.”

“Some of the most popular things in the 80s were: tight jeans, white stiletto shoes, mullet hairstyles, novelty songs and singers, yuppies, drinking to excess, launch of MTV, compact disc and the launch of 24 hour television.”

Of course for my 80s nail art I just decided to do some crazy patterned nails:

I asked a couple of people which era they thought was the best:

Flawless nail art

My ‘flawless’ nails were inspired by two music icons Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj.

From Beyoncé’s ‘On The Run Tour’ a Flawless remix with rapper Nicki Minaj was uploaded to YouTube.

The video has an incredibly powerful introduction as Beyoncé shares her views on feminism.

It was great to see both artists performing together in Paris.

As well as the video I also really loved the outfits and that inspired me to design new nail art.

I tried my best to copy the design from one of Beyoncé’s signature leotards and Nicki’s colourful jumpsuit.

15 years of Slim Shady

People who know me will know that I am a fan of Eminem, and to commemorate the 15 year anniversary of his first album, Slim Shady LP, I thought I would design some Slim Shady inspired nails. The Slim Shady LP was a huge success and earned the rapper his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. The album was released on February 23rd, 1999.

Last year Eminem was awarded The Global Icon award at the 2013 EMA’s, so I thought it was only right to feature him on my nail icon blog.

My favourite songs off the Slim Shady LP album would have to be ‘Guilty Conscience’ and ‘My name is’ because they are both really catchy. For the people who don’t know who Slim Shady is, he is Eminem’s alter ego, who is usually more aggressive in certain songs.
